German and European stocks edged largely lower Friday in tight trading ranges, with weak German trade data weighing ahead of the release of key U.S. jobs data. The volume of German exports fell in August for the first time in 15 months, dropping by 1.2% compared with the 0.5% increase expected, as Europe's largest economy, and main growth driver, felt the effect of the global supply chain problems. That rounds off a disappointing week of August data from Europe's largest economy, with manufacturing orders and industrial production also recording sharp declines.
