- MODERNA is a biotechnology company that specializes in mRNA vaccines. Moderna is one of the leading providers of COVID-19 vaccines in the world. Moderna’s vaccine was approved on November 19th as a booster shot on all adults 18 and over. The company is awaiting Emergency Use Authorization for its version of its vaccine for young adults 12 to 17, and for children 5 to 11.
- OMICRON (COVID-19) VARIANT (MODERNA IS PREPARED FOR THE CHALLENGE): A new variant of the Covid virus named Omicron was discovered last week in South Africa. The variant is significantly different from the original version and there are fears that it may be resistant to both the current vaccines and natural immunity. Early reports are that it is highly infectious. Moderna said that it is aiming to seek approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for a booster COVID-19 jab for the new omicron variant by March 2022. They said its booster dose carries genes that specifically target mutations in the new variant. The company is also developing a multi-valent vaccine against up to four different variants, including omicron.
- COVID-19 VACCINE SALES TO STAY STRONG (UK ORDERS 60 MILLION VACCINES FROM MODERNA): Moderna is still expected to rake in around billions of dollars of revenue in 2021, and similar numbers in 2022. Just recently the U.K. agreed to buy an additional 114 million Covid-19 vaccine doses from Moderna Inc. and the partnership of Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE. The latest deal is a big win for Moderna, which will supply 60 million of the 114 million doses.
- GOVERNMENTS WORLDWIDE CONTINUED TO RELY ON VACCINES: Covid vaccines are proving to be effective at lowering the severity of the disease. Given a choice between economic lockdowns and vaccine mandates, most governments are choosing the latter. There are reports that the effectiveness of the vaccine wanes after time. This gives rise to the demand for boosters. Demand for Covid vaccines and boosters may continue to be strong for some time.
- MODERNA PRICE ACTION: Moderna stock currently trades around 38% below its recent all-time high of $498.28, tested in August 2021. If a full recovery follows, the stock could increase around 61%.
