- WHAT IS A STOCK INDEX: According to Investopedia.com, a stock index measures the price performance of a basket (group) of stocks using a standardized methodology. The NASDAQ 100 Index is one of the world's best-known indexes and one of the most commonly used benchmarks for the stock market.
- COMPONENTS: USA100 includes 100 companies including Apple, Google, Nvidia, Meta, and Microsoft.
RECENT TREND:
- THE NASDAQ 100 IS NOW UP AROUND 80% FROM ITS OCTOBER 2022 LOWS: The Nasdaq has sharply rallied from October 2022 lows, as the tech sector continues to remain the best-performing sector in the United States. The Nasdaq rally has outpaced both the S&P500 and the Dow Jones Industrial index since October 2022.
NEXT ECONOMIC EVENTS:
- TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 AT 13:30 GMT+1: US RETAIL SALES (AUGUST). US Retail Sales rose 1% on annual terms in July, beating analysts’ expectations for an increase of 0.4%. If, however, Retail Sales managed to show a kind of slowdown in August, this could impact the US dollar negatively, while the US stock market could rise as this would increase chances for further interest rate cuts in the USA.

- META (FACEBOOK): META CONNECT
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25- 26: META CONNECT. Connect will showcase a lineup of Meta’s latest digital solutions from its social media and XR umbrella. Meta has not yet revealed details on the event, other than the event will feature a number of expected sessions, featured technology, and speakers such as CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Historically, Connect is an event that reveals, among other things, deep insights into the firm’s XR roadmap. In past events, Connect events have featured the company’s rebrand, Meta Quest 3, and RayBan AR glasses.
CENTRAL BANKS MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER:
- FEDERAL RESERVE INTEREST RATE DECISION (WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 AT 19:00 GMT+1). The most recent economic turmoil in the US raised chances that the Fed could cut interest rates by 50 basis points to 5.00% from the current 5.50% in September. Whether the cut would be 50 basis points or 25 basis points, it would still be the first since 2020. All in all, the market expects the Fed could reduce interest rates from the current 5.5% (the highest in over 20 years) to 4.50% by the end of the year.
