US PRESIDENT- ELECT DONALD TRUMP INAUGURATION

OVERVIEW: Donald Trump was elected the 47th President of the USA on November 5, 2024. He won against the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. After the election results, however, Donald Trump did not come to power immediately, rather he needed to wait until after the Inauguration.

INAUGURATION: According to USA.GOV, Inauguration Day is the day when the president-elect and vice-president-elect are sworn in and take office. The inauguration ceremony takes place at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC.

WHEN: President- Elect Donald Trump will be inaugurated on January 20, 2025 at a ceremony that starts at 17:00 GMT. That is when he officially takes office and after that he starts implementing his promises. He will stay in office until January 20, 2029.

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S PROMISES:

  1. LOWER CORPORATE TAXES: CORPORATE TAXES TO BE CUT FROM THE CURRENT 21% TO 15%.
  2. DEREGULATION: TRUMP TO ELIMINATE 10 REGULATIONS IN THE BANKING INDUSTRY. This will offer a more attractive environment for banks. He also promised to overhaul key regulatory bodies.
  3. FOREIGN POLICY: UKRAINE- RUSSIA CONFLICT. During the campaign, Trump repeatedly said he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine “in a day”.

During his first term, President Trump made the following changes:

  1. LOWER CORPORATE TAXES: He cut taxes in his first term from 35% to the current 21%.
  2. DEREGULATION: TRUMP ELIMINATED CERTAIN REGULATIONS IN THE BANKING INDUSTRY. According to CNBC, President Donald Trump signed the biggest rollback of bank regulations since the global financial crisis into law.
