Description:

Natural gas is distributed to more than 60 million homes and accounts for almost a quarter of US energy consumption. It is considered to be an essential source in generating electricity and providing energy to new homes. Natural gas cannot be shipped around the world in pipes, although the cost of producing liquid natural gas has dropped by nearly 50%, making it a viable alternative. Natural gas also has the advantage of being efficient and the cleanest burning fossil fuel.

Unless converted to liquid natural gas, natural gas is difficult to store, so new sources are always being sought to meet demand.
96% of the world’s natural gas reserves is located outside of the US. Qatar's North Dome Field is thought to be the location of the world’s largest natural gas field spanning 6,000 square kilometers. The area shares a border with Iran’s South Pars field, which also produces natural gas.
According to the Minerals Management Service and the US Geological Survey, the USA has a significant amount of untapped natural gas reserves.
